I remember being in elementary school, visiting my grandparents and being in awe of my grandfather’s artistic talent. He enrolled in art classes in the 1920’s, but did not pursued an art career, instead finding work at an industrial plant. In 1956 he was badly injured when a piece of machinery hit him in the back of the head, and he never fully recovered. He had double-vision for the rest of his life and his motor skills were always greatly impaired. Painting became therapeutic for him, and he practiced every day. It was during this time - sitting with him and watching him paint - that my passion for art was ignited. My ultimate desire is to bring joy through my artwork, just as my grandfather brought joy through his.
